Strong explosion in a Lugoj Police building. Deflagration produced by an accumulation of gases
A strong explosion shook the headquarters of the Lugoj Municipality Police this morning, where the registration offices and the Traffic Police Station are located.

An explosion occurred this morning in the building of the Traffic Police in Lugoj, against the background of an accumulation of gas. The explosion occurred when a person turned on the light bulb.
An important structure of the building was damaged, and a person was pulled from the rubble, in a state of consciousness, who is receiving medical care from the emergency crews who arrived immediately to the intervention.
“Today, 14.01.2026, at around 08:18, we were requested to intervene following an explosion, not followed by a fire, in an annex of the traffic police yard in the municipality of Lugoj. A first-aid and command vehicle, 2 fire engines and 10 firefighters rushed to the scene. As a result of the explosion, 3 victims, two people, one of whom is a male victim, went to the hospital, they have burns on the face and upper limbs, the other person is evaluated medic on the spot, has minor burns on the upper limb. The third victim, has a panic attack, receives medical attention on the spot”states ISU Timiș.
The 3 victims are MAI employees.
Witnesses claim they heard a loud bang and saw the windows of the building shatter.
Firefighters, police and medical teams continue the rescue operation and damage assessment.
Traffic in the city center area is currently blocked and residents are asked to avoid the area to allow for safe intervention.
