Mutu played at Ajaccio between 2012 and 2014, being transferred to Corsica by Orsoni. The former president of the French team also escaped assassination in 2008, just a month after taking over the reins of Ajaccio.

Mutu was shocked when he heard that Orsoni had been killed. The former attacker gave a brief description of the man who was also a politician and an important figure in the separatist movement in Corsica.

Adrian Mutu: “I was shocked, I didn't expect that he would still be wanted after so many years”

“I was shocked, I didn't expect him to be wanted after so many years. He was shot 2-3 times, he's been through this in the past. We, in sports, know what he did. From what I knew, a sweet man, with excessive kindness and calmness. His big problems were elsewhere, not in football. Football was fun.

He gave me the highest salary in the history of the club, what I had at Cesena before I came to Ajaccio. There were problems in Cesena, the president had fled the country. What can I say, where I was, the patrons had problems”, said Adrian Mutu, on the Digi SportSpecial show.

In football, money is not always the only thing that matters. In Mutu's transfer, human relations were also important, and the opportunity that arose for us to convince him to come to Ajaccio.

Adrian Mutu played 37 matches for Ajaccio and managed to score 11 goals for the Corsican team. The club is currently in the seventh French league, being relegated in 2025 due to financial problems.
