In general, Romanians' debts are structured according to destination, local taxes (house, land and car taxes) that are paid at town halls and taxes and contributions that are paid at ANAF.

Fees and taxes in 2026. Check what you owe

Thus, employees or PFA or Individual or Family Enterprises (II or IF) can find out through various methods if they have arrears in the payment of income tax or contributions to Health (CASS) and Pensions (CAS). Such checks can avoid the application of penalties, seizure of accounts or even enforcement measures.

For individuals and legal entities, the easiest way to check debts is through the Virtual Private Space (SPV) – the official ANAF platform.

1. Create your account in SPV

Access: www.anaf.ro

  • click on the “Virtual Private Space” button
  • select “Registration of natural person” or “legal person”
  • fill in the form with: CNP or CUI, email address, name and first name for identification (with bulletin, digital signature or authentication at the counter)
  • CNP or CUI
  • email address
  • name and surname
  • type of identification (with slip, digital signature or authentication at the counter)

Account validation is done:

  • online, with qualified electronic signature
  • or at the counter, by presenting an identity document (one time)

2. Log in to your SPV account

After activation, you can log into your personal account at any time. You access:

  • section “Fiscal obligations situation”
  • select the desired period (month, quarter, year)
  • you can view and download a PDF of existing debts

You will see:

  • what amounts you have to pay
  • what debts have been paid
  • if there are penalties or interest
  • if you are listed with “no outstanding obligations”

3. Check out other useful sections

In SPV you also have access to:

  • submitted declarations (D112, D200, D230, D394, etc.)
  • payments made
  • official messages received from ANAF
  • requested tax certificates (electronic)

You can submit requests, notifications and statements directly from your account, without going to the counter.

Other verification methods

If you don't have an SPV account or you need an alternative option:

  • you can go directly to the ANAF headquarters from your home
  • you can request a tax certification certificate (free for individuals)
  • you can call the ANAF number dedicated to fiscal information: 031 403 91 60
  • In some cases, you can request verification by email, but an electronic signature is required

However, SPV remains the fastest and most efficient option.

What do you do if you have debts to ANAF

What alternatives do you have to pay your taxes in 2026

The most convenient way to pay local taxes and fees is on giseul.ro.

On Ghiseul.ro

Also, with regard to the tax obligations due to the local budget, taxpayers who have an account created (username and password) in their own IT applications managed by the administrative-territorial units or who have an account on the website www.ghiseul.ro can view and pay tax debts directly with their bank card.

Physically, with programming

Individuals who do not have a bank card or do not want to pay online can go directly to the ANAF headquarters in the town where they live or to the town hall, depending on the debts they have to pay.

In order to pay local taxes at the town halls, a prior appointment is sometimes required.
