North Korea on Monday condemned what it called “shameless” maneuvers by the United States, which it said “ignore the very existence of the United Nations,” in a statement carried by the official KCNA news agency.
The Belgian newspaper La Libre Belgique, taken over by Rador Radio Romania, reports on Monday that Pyongyang's mission to the UN, in New York, objected to information regarding the violation of sanctions imposed on North Korea. Instead, “what should be questioned and openly debated at the UN as the most important priority issue is the despicable criminal act of the United States,” the statement said.
“The United States shows its contempt for the very existence of the UN,” Pyongyang added.
The statement comes a week after the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro by the United States.
Such an operation is a disaster scenario for Pyongyang, which has long accused Washington of wanting to “decapitate” its government and says its own military and nuclear programs serve as a deterrent.
“The irrationality and abusive practices of Washington, which uses the UN arena to advance its geopolitical interests, should never be tolerated,” the North Korean mission also said.
It also accused Washington of “shameless illegal and immoral acts” and “trying to mock the UN stage for unilateral and selfish purposes”.
Last week, President Donald Trump announced that the United States would withdraw from a number of United Nations organizations deemed “contrary to US interests.”
North Korea is under a series of UN Security Council sanctions over its nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
