Two Romanian women, caught in Otopeni with money, jewelry and watches worth a total of 3 million euros

The authorities at the Henri Coandă Airport Border Police Point discovered that two women, who came from Dubai, entered the country with jewelry, watches and sums of money, totaling 3 million euros, hidden in their luggage.

“Border police officers from the Henri Coandă Airport Border Police Point, together with customs workers from the Otopeni Airport Border Customs Office, discovered, hidden in the luggage of some women, 2 kg of yellow metal under susceptible jewelry form to be made of gold, 5 luxury watches of different brands and the sums of 73,400 euros and 2,718,500 AED that the persons were trying to smuggle into the country”, sends the Romanian Border Police in a press release.
According to the authorities, on Friday, January 9, around 4:00 p.m., at the Henri Coandă International Airport, two Romanian women, aged 20 and 49, arrived from Dubai, passed the border control and headed for the exit without declaring the goods and amounts they had to the customs authorities.

In their luggage were discovered 19 necklaces, 34 bracelets, 5 rings and 17 earrings made of yellow metal likely to be gold, as well as 5 luxury watches of different brands. Also, in the luggage were 2,718,500 AED (2,594,212 lei), respectively 73,400 euros.
In total, the goods, as well as the sums of money, amount to an estimated value of 3,000,000 euros. These were taken over by the customs authorities to be sent for expertise.
Therefore, the police are investigating the crime of attempted smuggling.
