Venezuela releases a “significant number” of political prisoners, including foreigners. “A gesture of peace”

An important number of prisoners for political reasons, including foreigners imprisoned in Venezuela, have been set free, the president of the parliament in Caracas announced on Thursday, without giving any other details, international agencies report, quoted by Agerpres.
“In order to promote peaceful coexistence, the Bolivarian government and state institutions have decided to release an important number of Venezuelans and foreigners,” said Jorge Rodriguez.
“These release processes are ongoing,” Rodriguez said in a press statement at the National Assembly.
The official from Caracas specified that it was a gesture of peace and a unilateral measure, which was not agreed with other parties.
The head of Venezuela's legislature, Jorge Rodriguez, is the brother of interim president Delcy Rodriguez, the former vice president who took over the country after President Nicolas Maduro was captured in a US military operation in Caracas last weekend.
