According to him, the operation to clear the city of Russian troops, which has been ongoing since the fall, is nearing completion – there are less than 100 occupiers left in Kupyansk, who are completely surrounded and have problems with supplies even from the air.
Russians are mostly hiding in basements in the central and northwestern parts of the city. Tregubov believes that they will most likely surrender en masse, since there are no prospects of surviving or breaking through the cordon.
At the same time, the Russian command set the task of taking Kupyansk by February 2026.
“That is, to take the same city that they seem to have already taken. Moreover, this task is set by the same person named Kuzovlev [командующий группировкой войск “Запад”, генерал-полковник Сергей Кузовлев]. He has already received the Hero of Russia star for this once. He probably wants another star – maybe posthumously, I don’t know. But the situation really is like this. This is Russian news from an alternative reality,” Tregubov said.
