Dos Santos returned to face the flames to save his girlfriend
On New Year's Eve, he was in Crans-Montana, at the club “Le Constellation”, where a fire killed more than 40 people.
Dos Santos was on the ground floor and managed to escape the fire in time, quickly leaving the club. He then realized that his girlfriend had been left behind, caught in the flames. He didn't hesitate and went back inside, risking his life to save her. And he succeeded, though the price paid might be steep.
His agent Christophe Hutteau told BFMTV: “Fortunately, Tahirys was on the ground floor, and not in the basement, when the fire broke out. He immediately managed to escape outside, but once there he realized that his girlfriend was still inside the building. Then he turned and jumped into the flames to find and save her. Besides being a victim, Tahirys is also a hero, and there's no doubt about it“.
The young man is now hospitalized in Stuttgart, in serious condition, but breathing on his own. The girl is also hospitalized. “I can't say that Tahirys is okay because she is in terrible pain. He has burns on about 30% of his bodyHutteau continues.
“He suffered burns on the back of his head and a large part of his body. We will have to wait four or five days to know more, because the first few days are crucial for burn patients in terms of infections and secondary infections“, he added.
