Chinese-linked hackers hacked the US Treasury department responsible for sanctions. This is how Beijing wants to obtain data on companies against which America can impose restrictions, The Washington Post claims.
The attack happened on December 30, the Ministry of Finance reported. Hackers gained access to work computers and unclassified documents. As the publication’s interlocutors reported, even this is more than enough for China. The authorities will supposedly be able to understand how the United States develops sanctions policy and who is considered as potential targets. And it’s only a matter of time for hackers to get to secret data. Beijing denies any involvement in the hack.
