“That's what really matters in life”

Antonio Rudiger (32 years old) spent a whole week in Sierra Leone, the country where his mother was born, and launched projects in the field of health, education and sports.
The defender did not go to Africa to relax, but to engage in humanitarian work that made a real difference to communities in Sierra Leone.

The Real Madrid defender returned to his motherland for seven days to support vulnerable communities in Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone, through his foundation's initiatives. On December 29, after the end of his stay, he returned to the “galacticos” training.
This was Rudiger's third high-profile philanthropic visit to Sierra Leone. The sportsman organized one of the largest Christmas events for people with disabilities ever held in Sierra Leone. More than 200 participants, including blind, deaf and physically disabled people, took part in a festive lunch that included hot meals and the distribution of essential supplies, according to Marca.
“Trips like this give me more energy than any vacation in any other destination. Being here, seeing the smiles, feeling the gratitude and knowing that we are making even a small difference encourages and motivates me. That's what really matters in life.
Christmas is a time of love, compassion and generosity. No one should feel left out or forgotten. Sharing a meal with those who are struggling means a lot to me. Many people feel forgotten. We wanted them to know: they are seen, they matter,” said Antonio Rudiger, according to the aforementioned source.
In eastern Sierra Leone, the “Antonio Rudiger Foundation” in partnership with Under Armour, has supported over 350 young footballers from local academies and grassroots football leagues in Kono district. Participants received full equipment, new balls and training equipment.
“Football gave me everything. Giving young players hope, structure and confidence is the least I can do“, he also declared.
