A five-story apartment block in the center of Kharkiv, attacked with ballistic missiles by the Russian military

At least 16 people were injured Friday following a Russian ballistic missile attack in a residential area of Kharkiv, Ukrainian media reported.

A five-story block of flats was hit, and authorities are stepping in to pull people out from under the rubble. In a Facebook post, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy gave more details about the Russian attack.
Oleh Siniehubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, said the Russians hit a five-story residential building in the city's Kyivskyi district, RBC-Ukraine writes.
“Kharkov city center, two rocket attacks, preliminary reports indicate ballistic missiles, with direct hits on a five-story residential building”, Siniehubov said.
Initially, 13 people were reported injured. Six were taken to hospital, including a woman in serious condition. The rocket attack destroyed the residential building and caused a fire.
It also damaged the windows and facades of nearby buildings. Emergency services, the Emergency Service of Ukraine (DSNS) and municipal and regional authorities are on the scene. The rescue operation is ongoing.
Preliminary reports, cited by Zelenski, indicate that two rockets were fired at the city.
“Horrifying Russian attack on Kharkiv. Preliminary reports indicate that two rockets were fired directly at the residential area. One of the buildings was badly damaged.” the Ukrainian president said.
A rescue operation is currently underway at the scene, involving all the necessary emergency services.
According to the authorities, the number of injured in Kharkiv has increased to 16. There may still be people trapped under the rubble, and search and rescue operations continue, writes RBC Ukraine. The mayor of Kharkiv, Ihor Terekhov, said that one person is in serious condition.
