US President Donald Trump said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal that he takes a higher daily dose of aspirin than his doctors recommend, reports Reuters.
“They say aspirin is good for thinning the blood, and I don't want thick blood running through my heart,” Trump told the Wall Street Journal in an interview published Thursday. “I want beautiful, thin blood to flow through my heart. Does that make sense?”, continued the American president, according to Agerpres.
At 79, Trump is the second-oldest person ever to serve as president, after his Democratic predecessor, Joe Biden, who announced his withdrawal from the race for re-election to the White House amid questions about his ability to carry out his duties and was 82 when he left office a year ago.
Trump's health has been in the media's attention in recent months after bruises were spotted on his hands and it was reported that he underwent an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) exam in October, as well as episodes in which the Republican president closed his eyes during public events.
Taking aspirin daily can reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke in people over 60, according to the Mayo Clinic, which states that a low dose of aspirin is most commonly 81 milligrams.
What Trump's doctor says
The president's physician, Sean Barbabella, told the WSJ that Trump takes 325 milligrams of aspirin daily as a cardiovascular preventative measure.
The bruises appeared as a result of “frequent handshakes,” according to the White House, which said last month that the imaging procedure was done as a precaution.
Asked about the MRI, Trump and Barbabella told the Journal that the president did, in fact, have a CT (computed tomography) scan.
Barbabella stated that Trump's doctors initially indicated that they would perform either an MRI or a CT, but decided on the latter option “to definitively rule out any cardiovascular problems.”
According to Barbabella, the investigation did not reveal any anomaly.
After questioning his sanity, Trump says he doesn't know why he had an MRI and promises to release the result
