An undersea fiber-optic cable between Estonia and Sweden was damaged, the Swedish Post and Telecommunications Authority (PTS) reported on Wednesday. Earlier, Finnish authorities reported the failure of the cable connecting Helsinki with Tallinn.

According to a PTS statement, the cable connecting Estonia with Sweden was damaged on Tuesday in the waters of the Estonian economic zone.

The owner of the optical fiber is the Swedish company Arelion. Its spokesman Martin Sjoegren said the company was “actively working with authorities in Sweden and other countries to investigate the cause.” He added that the vast majority of customers do not feel the effects of the failure because data transfer is carried out automatically via other network connections.

According to Sjoegren, repairs to the cable are expected to begin “as soon as possible” and be completed within a few days, depending on weather conditions.

Earlier on Wednesday, Finnish authorities reported the failure of the telecommunications cable connecting Helsinki with Tallinn on the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. In this case, the transport ship Fitburg registered in the Caribbean islands of St. is suspected of causing the damage. Vincent and the Grenadines.
