US ambassador to NATO on the attack on Putin's residence. “It's not clear”

On Monday, Russia reported that Vladimir Putin's residence in Russia's Novgorod Oblast was attacked with 91 drones. All of them were to be shot down. The Kremlin clearly identified Ukraine as the perpetrator of the attack. He announced retaliation and a toughening of Russia's negotiating position on ending the war in Ukraine. Ukraine strongly denied it, calling Russia's claims a lie. When asked by Reuters about evidence of such an attack, US President Donald Trump briefly replied, “We'll find out.”

Matthew Whitaker, the US representative to NATO, reacted similarly, stating in an interview for Fox Business that “it is not clear whether this actually took place.” He added that it is unlikely that Ukraine would decide to launch a similar attack when negotiations are so advanced. “I think it's a little tactless to be so close to making peace when Ukraine really wants it and then do something that could be considered reckless and unhelpful,” he said in an interview with Fox Business.
However, he stressed that he would wait for accurate information from intelligence agencies. “We will get to the bottom of the matter through intelligence. For me, the most important thing is what the United States and the intelligence services of our allies say about whether the attack actually took place,” Whitaker said.
