Secret groups of Russian nationalists wanted to seize power in the USSR after Stalin's death. Some – moderates – secretly joined the Soviet elite, headed party bodies, the Komsomol, and the most prominent publishing houses and magazines. Others created underground groups, planned to evict all Jews from the territory of the Union or create Christian Rus' based on Berdyaev’s ideas. Still others made documentaries about Zionism, which 30 years later the Russian Federation recognizes as extremist.
Some were intelligent, deep and interesting. Others chopped their wives with axes (true story).
But they were all members of the so-called “Russian party” – people who are often considered to be the forerunners of the Russian national movement.
The new episode of the podcast “The End of History” is dedicated to the story about the “Russian party”.
Inside: how individual marginalized people created the National Socialist Parties of the USSR and organized their own rallies. How neo-pagans developed charters for the Komsomol based on fascist philosophy. As the head of the KGB, Shelepin patronized Russian nationalists, why he first helped Khrushchev and then overthrew him, and how he himself almost became the head of state. What is the “Pavlov group” and why Yuri Gagarin is considered a Russian nationalist. Komsomol became the center of the Russian party. What was anti-Zionist literature like in the Soviet Union and how Russian neo-paganism appeared.
In the end, we will tell you how “Russian nationalism” ended in the USSR.
