The last trading session in AD 2025 brought new bullish peaks for WIG and WIG20. Despite the weaker end of the year on the broader market, most investors on the WSE should have no reason to complain. It was really a very successful year for the Polish stock exchange.

Due to the fact that the WSE will be closed on December 31, this was the last trading session of 2025. Investors decided to celebrate the end of the year with dignity and pushed the two most important indices to new highs. After an increase of 0.55%, WIG ended the year at 117,240.24 points, setting a new all-time record. Tuesday's turnover was estimated at nearly PLN 1.5 billion.

WIG20, gaining 0.60%, reached the level of 3,184.02 points. This is also a new peak in the bull market since October 2022 and the highest closing price since January 2008. However, neither mWIG40 (although it was close) nor sWIG80 achieved new maximums today.
Even though this year's autumn brought a marked cooling of the economic situation, the balance sheet for the entire year 2025 is clearly positive. WIG gained as much as 47.3% and thus achieved the highest annual rate of return since 1996 – almost 30 years! The results from 2009 (46.7%) and 2003 (44.9%) were easily beaten. WIG20 gained 45.3% during the year and it was also the best annual result in 29 years. At the same time, both WIG and WIG20 have never been quoted lower than they started this year and, apart from the April slide caused by President Trump's tariff wars, they have not recorded a single significant correction.

Medium-sized companies performed slightly worse – but still excellent – mWIG40 earned 33.6%. sWIG80 remained slightly in the shadow, gaining 25.4%. However, it was not always so green on the broader market. 124 stocks out of 326 WIG components recorded a negative annual rate of return. This means that investment in 38% of companies resulted in losses (excluding dividends). Including 38 securities, it was possible to lose more than a quarter of the initial capital. In the case of the 6 most unlucky people, the loss was over 50%.
However, on 27 securities it was possible to more than double the capital (i.e. earn more than 100%). Another 42 brought a return of over 50%, and another 71 allowed me to earn over 20%. The hallmark of AD 2025 can also be seen in the statistics of Wednesday's session, during which the number of securities with at least a 52-week maximum was three times higher than the number of securities with the lowest price in at least a year.
Among the blue chips, it was hard not to pay attention to the soaring prices of KGHM, which end the year at PLN 280.80, which means an increase of almost 145% throughout the year. This is due to the galloping copper prices, which end December with a series of 10 upward sessions in a row and at a level of over 12.5 thousand. USD/tonne
