“There is no consent to equating marriage with a civil partnership”
In an interview with Polsat News, the head of the president's office, Paweł Głosernaker, recalled that during the election campaign, Karol Nawrocki declared support for solutions that make life easier for citizens, such as access to medical and official information. However, as Scheernaker emphasized, the project was accepted “transfers marital privileges to civil partnerships”.
— This is not an act on the status of the next of kin, which is supposed to provide help to Poles, but it is simply a matter of such ideology. The president does not agree to equate marriage with a civil partnership, the minister noted.
Chefernaker also indicated that the president would not accept provisions regarding community of property that would allow partners to choose between separation and community of property. In his opinion, such solutions bring civil partnerships closer to marriages, which is inconsistent with the president's vision.
Concerns about the adoption of children by homosexual couples
Another flashpoint is the potential opening of the way for homosexual couples to adopt children. Żefernaker noted that LGBT organizations signal the need to introduce such solutions in the future. — This shows what the ultimate goal of adopting these solutions is: first, equating civil partnerships with marriages, and finally, adoption of children, said the minister.
Talks with the government did not result in an agreement
The head of the president's office revealed that the president's support was conducting talks with representatives of the ruling coalition about the project. — We have indicated the issues that the president will not accept in the final draft. Despite this, they are written here today – reported Gwiazdernaker.
The draft act on the status of the next of kin replaces the previous proposal for the act on civil partnerships, which assumed changes to over 200 applicable acts. The records included, among others: the possibility of jointly settling taxes, the right to inherit or bury a partner. However, the document was not discussed by the Council of Ministers due to the opposition of PSL politicians.
President Karol Nawrocki remains adamant about the provisions which, in his opinion, equate civil partnerships with marriages. According to the statements of his colleagues, without significant changes to the draft, the bill has no chance of being signed by the head of state.
