The head of security at the French national team has been forced into early retirement by the General Directorate of the National Police (DGPN). The reason? The man did not declare a bonus received from Kylian Mbappe after the 2022 World Championship, worth 60,300 euros.

An unprecedented situation in France. The head of security at the national soccer team, known to soccer players as “Momo,” was notified on December 19 that he will take early retirement.

Behind this decision is a check received in 2023 from Kylian Mbappe, worth 60,300 euros. It was, according to the parties involved, a bonus for the police officer's services during the 2022 World Cup. Beyond the collaboration with the national team, Momo is close to the Mbappe family.

On behalf of Mohamed S., the officer failed to report the donation, sparking an investigation that ended abruptly with his early retirement. Momo is still being investigated for tax fraud and money laundering, writes A Bola.

Momo's lawyer, Abdel Aissou, claims that the collection of that bonus is perfectly legal: “This story does not hold up in court, because this donation is legal and is not contested. I wonder what the motivations are to persecute this honest policeman.”

In addition to Mohamed, four other policemen received donations of 30,000 euros each, also from Mbappe. The entourage of the Real Madrid footballer assures that “everything was done in compliance with the rules, but in the spirit of the law”.

He will be with the national team at the World Championship

His exit from the system will officially take place on December 31, when his secondment to the French Football Federation also expires. But Momo will not be unemployed after this date, because in the light of what happened, the Federation offered him a fixed-term contract, until the summer of 2026after the World Championship in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
