The former technician from FCSB was very close to an agreement with the second division Poli Iași, but was diverted from the road by the University of Craiova, where he accepted the post of second coach of Filipe Coelho, the replacement of Mirel Radoi.
Petrea, from the interim position, won the Romanian Cup with FCSB in 2020, and then as the main player he lost two championships at the limit, in 2021 and 2023.
Before being the head coach of the red-blue team, Toni Petrea was Laurentiu Reghecampf's assistant at FCSB, in the periods 2012-2014 and 2015-2017.
Toni Petrea's last adventure on the bench, in the position of “principal”, was at Cluj University, between June and August 2023, when he prepared the team for 6 stages, where he had an average of one point/match.
His highest point average as a coach in a season came in 2021-2022, 2.04 points/game in 28 games.
