The medical office of the Salvamont Gorj Public Service, located in the upper part of the ski slope on the Păpușa peak, was destroyed by the blizzard, announced Sunday, December 28, the Salvamont National Dispatch.
“The power of nature … The medical office of the Salvamont Gorj Public Service, set up in a metal container and located on the upper part of the ski slope on the Păpuşa peak, was shattered by the blizzard. Even if it was properly placed, on the concrete platform and anchored with cables well fixed in the concrete, the unleashed nature proved stronger”stated the Salvamont National Dispatch on Facebook.
In the next period, the mountain rescuers will analyze what are the possibilities to compensate for this loss “so that the quality of the provided first aid medical services is maintained at the best possible level,“, the Salvamont National Dispatcher communicated.
Red code for snow and very strong wind
We remind you that the National Meteorological Administration (ANM) issued on Sunday, December 28, a Code Red warning of snow and very strong wind, targeting the Southern and Curvature Carpathians, at altitudes of over 1,700 meters.
The Code Red warning is valid until Monday at 10:00 a.m.

“There will be snow accompanied by very strong winds, with gust speeds of over 120 km/h and which will cause visibility to drop to near zero”, states ANM.
The mountain areas in Gorj, Vrancea, Buzău, Prahova, Braşov, Dâmboviţa, Argeş, Sibiu, Vâlcea, Hunedoara, Caraş-Severin counties are targeted.
ANM has also issued a Code Orange warning of strong blizzard and very low visibility in most of Moldova and locally in Transylvania, valid until Monday at 02.00.
