“I feel like a fish in water there!” » How he missed a contract with the “Real Madrid of Africa”

In a GSP interview, on the show “Prietenii lui Ovidiu”, Şumudica explained the reasons why he resigned and said that he had several offers recently.

– Mr. Şumudica, how is life after breaking up with Rapid?
– The first month, a month and a half, was difficult for me. A lot of internal fighting. In the end, I don't want to remember. In the end, with an unfulfilled goal. I mean, I really wanted to reach the European Cups, we didn't manage to do that.

– The boss wanted the deal to continue, even so.
– I was appreciated by the boss and we had a discussion. Mr. Șucu didn't even want to hear it, but I promised that if I didn't do this, I would leave. And I kept my promise. I left Rapid. I gave up. At the last stage, I was no longer at U Cluj, I gave up, because I had no chance of qualifying for the European Cups. I made a promise, that if I don't qualify for the European Cups, I will leave.

– But did you talk to Mr. Șucu?
– I had a discussion with Mr. Șucu. I explained to him, I told him what I felt at the time, in the end, he accepted. It's hard for me every day, I watch a lot of matches, I go and I'm also an analyst at Fanatik, that relieves me, to say, from this pain in quotes, that I'm not a coach. I stay plugged in. I see a lot of matches, I remain in the phenomenon and we had a lot of discussions, it's clear, but they didn't connect.

– Can you give us some details?
– At some I was refused, that is, there were others with a better CV than mine at the time. It was Al Ahly Cairo. The Real Madrid of Africa, what can I say. And we ended up with three candidates, they analyzed and in the end they chose another coach from the Bundesliga, there was a coach at Augsburg, who was also at Copenhagen, with a much better CV than mine.

– There were discussions in Turkey, I was very close to certain clubs, but out of respect I cannot give their names, because now they have coaches. I like and am respected in Turkey. I went, for example, to Drăguș's match once in Istanbul. I took as many pictures as I did in Romania in one week. I mean, everyone recognized me in the stadium, all the fans. I feel like a fish in water in Turkey.

– And my temperament probably more choleric, similar to theirs. And then there were some discussions. We refused one team because there were problems with the transfers they made. They also had transfers blocked for the next three periods. And from a financial point of view I didn't stay to analyze much, but there were financial problems towards the players. It was very difficult for me.

– And from Arab countries?
– I had a clear offer on the table from Saudi Arabia, but the team was also relegated… And at the moment I am in contact with the people there, with the president of the club and the sheikh, but they are relegated and it is quite difficult.
