Computer attack at the Oltenia Energy Complex. The business IT infrastructure was affected

A ransomware type computer attack affected, on the night of December 26, the business IT infrastructure of the Oltenia Energy Complex Society. The attack took place around 1:40 a.m., company officials said.

“On December 26, 2025, around 01:40, a ransomware-type computer attack was identified, called “Gentlemen”, which affected the business IT infrastructure of the Oltenia Energy Complex Company. Following the attack, some documents and files were encrypted, and several IT applications became temporarily unavailable, including ERP systems, document management applications, the e-mail service and the company's website. The company's activity was partially affected, without jeopardizing the operation of the National Energy System”announces the company.

Immediately after the incident was discovered, the affected systems were isolated, and the situation was reported to the National Directorate of Cyber ​​Security, the Ministry of Energy and other competent authorities, according to News.ro.

Also, the management of the company submitted a criminal complaint to DIICOT – Gorj Territorial Office, regarding the commission of crimes of illegal access to a computer system and alteration of the integrity of computer data.

“From the moment the attack was identified, the IT specialists of the Oltenia Energy Complex started the process of reconstructing the systems on a new infrastructure, using the existing backup copies. Currently, the exact extent of the incident is being analyzed, as well as the existence of a possible data exfiltration. The Oltenia Energy Complex cooperates with the competent authorities and makes all the necessary efforts to completely restore the IT systems in the shortest possible time”the company also transmits.

A week ago, a ransomware-type cyberattack took place on several workstations and servers belonging to the Romanian National Water Administration and 10 out of 11 water basin administrations in the country, including Oradea, Cluj, Iasi, Siret, Buzau.
