Russia accused Ukraine on Friday of trying to “torpedoes” negotiations on the American plan to end the war, stating that the document recently presented by Kiev is “radically different” than the one previously discussed between Moscow and Washington. The information is reported by AFP.

The statements were made by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, who argued that the chances of an agreement depended on both the work done and the political will of the other side.

“On our work and on the political will of the other side will depend our ability to make the last effort and reach an agreement. Especially in a context where Kiev and its sponsors, especially from within the European Union, who are not favorable to an agreement, have intensified their efforts to torpedo it“, Riabkov declared on television, according to Agerpres.

Moscow invokes the lines drawn at the Putin-Trump summit

The Russian official warned that without addressing the root causes of the conflict, there can be no lasting agreement. “Without an adequate solution to the problems that are at the origin of this crisis, it will simply be impossible to reach a definitive agreement”Ryabkov said.

He appealed “to stay within the fixed limits” by the summit between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, organized in Alaska in August 2025. In the absence of compliance with these parameters, the Russian diplomat warned, “no agreement can be concluded“.

The plan presented by Kyiv, different from Moscow's expectations

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday presented a new version of the American plan, modified after negotiations with Kiev, compared to the initial version made public more than a month ago.

The new document, structured in 20 points, proposes a freeze on the front line, without offering an immediate solution to the territorial disputes. The plan also waives two key Moscow demands: the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the Donbas region and a legally binding commitment by Ukraine not to join NATO.

Russia's reaction was harsh. “This plan, if it can be called that, is radically different from the 27 points that we developed in the last weeks, since the beginning of December, in collaboration with the American side“, Serghei Riabkov said on Friday.
