Kazuyoshi Miura, known throughout the world as “King Kazu”, has ticked off a new fabulous chapter in his career. At 58, the Japanese will sign with a new club and categorically rejects the idea of retiring from professional football.
According to The Japan Times, the legendary striker is set to play in Japan's third division, Fukushima United, on a one-year loan from Atletico Suzuka, the team he played for last season in the fourth tier.
The move has yet to be officially announced, but the quoted source claims the presentation is set to take place on January 11 at 11:11 a.m., a custom that has become a tradition in honor of his iconic number, 11.
He started his career 40 years ago
Born in 1967, Miura made his debut in 1986, at Santos, in Brazil, after leaving Japan at just 15 years old, with the dream of becoming a professional footballer. Experiences at Palmeiras, Matsubara, CRB, XV de Jau and Coritiba followed before returning to Japan at Verdy Kawasaki in 1990.
At the Tokyo club, Miura experienced the best period of his career, appearing in 187 matches and scoring 110 goals. He also scored 55 goals in 89 caps for the Japanese national team.
In 1992 he won the Asian Cup with Japan and was named Footballer of the Year in Asia.
