The German footballer Sebastian Hertneraged 34, lost his life in an accident on a chairlift on a ski slope near the town of Zabljak (Montenegro). The information was confirmed by the local authorities.
Hertner was on vacation with his wife last Saturday, according to sportal.blic.rs. The accident happened when the gondola of the chairlift they were in collided with another gondola.
One of the chairlift's seats came loose from the cable and gave way on the side Hertner was on. His wife was seriously injured. She got stuck in the chairlift and suffered a broken leg.
The footballer fell from 70 meters and died as a result of the impact. Three other people remained stuck for several hours in the gondolas, during the intervention and the investigation.

After the incident, the operation of the facility was immediately suspended. The Montenegrin authorities ordered the closure of the chairlift and started an investigation to establish all the circumstances.
The prosecutor's office ordered a full technical inspection of the facility. The official cause of the tragedy has not yet been established.
“It is with great sadness that we announce that Sebastian Hertner, our captain, had a fatal accident while on vacation. We are shocked and deeply saddened. We send our condolences to the family and loved ones. Rest in peace, Sebastian“, the club ETSV Hamburg sent.
Sebastian Hertner was a German international at junior level while playing for Stuttgart. He had a solid career in the Zweite Bundesliga where he played for TSV 1860 München, Erzgebirge Aue and SV Darmstadt.
He made 95 appearances in the German second division without making his Bundesliga debut.
Until last season, he was the captain of ETSV Hamburg (German League 5), at which time he ended his professional playing career.
