Cancer may soon be defeated: scientists have developed a vaccine that programs the immune system to destroy cancer cells at different stages of the disease
Scientists from Columbia University have created a vaccine that can train the human immune system to destroy cancer cells. In this case, healthy tissues will remain intact.
The new vaccine can both help with the primary tumor and metastases, and prevent possible relapses. It will also be “personalized,” since cancer is always unique: tumor cells carry certain genetic mutations.
This will make it possible to cope with almost any tumor – for example, in tests on mice, colon cancer and melanoma were defeated. Now scientists are preparing to test the new therapy on patients.
