I got rid of sticky dust in the kitchen: I use 3 tricks – I no longer spend half a day cleaning

A sticky layer of greasy dust on the tops of kitchen cabinets creates an annoying and very time-consuming problem.

It is difficult to wash off, but it appears again very quickly.

But there are simple solutions that will not only clean the surface, but also prevent re-contamination.

1. Deep cleanser

To remove old plaque, prepare a homemade cleaning paste.

  • Mix in equal proportions: baking soda, mustard powder and dishwashing detergent.
  • Apply a thick layer onto the contaminated surface using a sponge.
  • Leave for 15-20 minutes to work. Baking soda and mustard will dissolve fat, and surfactants from dish soap will emulsify it.
  • Rinse with a damp cloth and wipe dry.

This paste copes even with many years of deposits without aggressive chemicals.

2. Protective coatings

After cleaning, create a barrier that will take the blow.

Silicone mats or film

  • This is the perfect solution. Apply silicone baking mats or special protective film to the surface of the cabinets.
  • The smooth surface does not retain dust and is easy to clean with a damp cloth. Can be removed, washed and returned to its place.

Old oilcloth

  • Cover the surface with pieces of old oilcloth or thick file.
  • Secure the edges with double-sided tape to prevent the coating from moving away.

Newspapers or kraft paper

  • Cover the surface with newspaper or wrapping paper.
  • It needs to be changed frequently (every 1-2 months), as the paper absorbs grease and dust.

3. Regular care system

Select and secure a protective covering, preferably a silicone mat.

  • Once every 2-3 weeks, simply wipe it with a damp cloth or napkin. Dirt will not have time to accumulate.
  • Once every six months, remove the covering, wash it and wipe the surface of the cabinet itself.

Dust in the kitchen is not ordinary – it is mixed with tiny particles of fat cooking on the stove. This mixture sticks tightly to the surface. The protective coating becomes a removable “shield” that collects all this plaque. All you have to do is wash this shield, and not scrub the cabinet itself.

This approach saves time, effort and nerves, turning tedious cleaning into an easy routine. Choose a method that is convenient for you and forget about sticky tops of kitchen cabinets!
