Electricity prices are falling and bills are rising. Poles will pay more through fees

The new tariffs published by the Energy Regulatory Office show that the unfreezing of electricity prices will be felt by households, but only to a small extent, as we wrote in Business Insider Polska. An average family consuming approximately 1.8 MWh per year (i.e. approximately 150 kWh per month) will pay a bill higher by a few zlotys a month.

As the wnp.pl website writes, Bank Pekao economists estimate that this means this on an annual basis average increase in fees by approx. 3.5%.
Electricity price down, bill up
At first glance, the situation may seem contrary to logic. Rate for electricity only drops from PLN 500 to PLN 495 per MWhand yet the total bill increases.
The explanation is simple: the price of energy is only part of the bill. As the wnp.pl website reminds, the final amount also includes:
- distribution,
- capacity fee,
- VAT,
- other fees (including cogeneration, renewable energy and quality).

Distribution fees – these are the two increases
They have the greatest impact on the growth of bills distribution fees. These are the ones that grow the most, especially:
- capacity fee,
- cogeneration fee,
- renewable energy fee,
- quality fee.
The proportions of changes are unfavorable for consumers: a drop in energy prices by PLN 5 per MWh companions increase in the distribution tariff by approximately PLN 28 per MWhthat is, up to 9.4 percent

Economists calm down, politicians have a problem
From the economic point of view, the changes are minor. Experts emphasize that they will not significantly affect either the cost of living or inflation. As the portal writes wnp.plhowever, the political dimension may be more important.
The government has repeatedly announced that after unfreezing energy prices, Poles will pay less. Formally, it can be argued that the price of electricity itself is actually falling, but for many consumers it matters final amount on the accountand this one will be higher.
Energy companies are also complaining
There is also dissatisfaction among energy producers. Energy companies inform in their announcements what the new tariffs mean for them serious financial losses: :
- Tauron and Enea – close PLN 200 million each,
- PGE – over PLN 500 million.
