Khakass hermit Agafya Lykova, who celebrated her 80th birthday this year, is preparing to celebrate the New Year and Christmas in the taiga with a new bathhouse. The need for construction arose after the flood carried away the old bathhouse. The Erinat River, on which the Lykovs’ settlement stands, changed its course and went to the side, taking with it an old bathhouse and an uninhabited hut. The new house, recently built on the mountain, stands strong.

According to Priest Igor Mylnikov, the initiative came from Agafya herself. A new novice, Valentina Ivanova from Moscow, helped her in the construction.

At the same time, Agafya Lykova herself is not preparing for the secular celebration of the New Year on December 31. As a Christian from a family of Old Believers, she observes the Nativity Fast, which will last until January 7. For her, this is a time of prayer and work, and the main holiday will be the Nativity of Christ. The helpers donated food, including meat and fish, which will be used for food after the end of the fast.
