Vlad Pascu, the drugged driver who killed two students near May 2 in August 2023, appealed in cassation against the final sentence of 10 years in prison and asked that his sentence be reduced. The extraordinary appeal is being judged today, December 16, by the High Court of Cassation and Justice.

The magistrates of the High Court of Cassation and Justice are analyzing, on Tuesday, an appeal in cassation, an extraordinary way of appeal, submitted by Vlad Pascu's lawyers, after the Constanța Court of Appeal definitively sentenced the young man to 10 years in prison for manslaughter and several traffic offenses, in the case of the May 2 accident, reports News.ro.

Through this extraordinary way of attack, Pascu hopes to obtain a reduction of the sentence. The decision of the supreme court will be final. Vlad Pascu's lawyers say that he should benefit from a reduced sentence after denouncing Tudor Duma, known as Maru, from whom he procures drugs.

At the end of January, Vlad Pascu was sentenced by the Mangalia Court. He received 7 years in prison for manslaughter, 2 years and 8 months in prison for causing bodily harm, 3 years and 4 months in prison for driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or other substances and 3 years for leaving the scene of an accident. The court ordered a cumulative sentence of 10 years in prison.

On August 21, the Constanta Court of Appeal upheld the decision of the trial court.

The tragedy of May 2

On August 19, 2023, while driving on DN 39, near May 2, Vlad Pascu entered a group of pedestrians. As a result of the impact, two young people lost their lives and three others were injured.

Roberta Dragomir and Sebastian Olaru, who died on the spot, were 20 and 21 years old, respectively, and were students at the Faculty of Geography of the University of Bucharest.

Vlad Pascu fled the scene of the accident and was later found by the police in Vama Veche. The investigators determined that he was under the influence of several prohibited substances, including cocaine, amphetamine and methamphetamine.

The accident revealed shocking details. Vlad Pascu had been stopped by the police twice – the day before the tragedy, at a filter, and the same night. He was allowed to leave police headquarters without being drug tested, even though drugs were found in his car and the car did not have valid RCA insurance. Less than an hour later, Vlad Pascu caused the accident.

Vlad Pascu was sent to court in October 2023, for culpable homicide, culpable bodily injury, leaving the scene of the accident and driving a vehicle under the influence of psychoactive substances.
