“We hope he stays, but we don't know what will happen”

Virgil Van Dijkhis captain Liverpooltalked about his situation and future Mohamed Salahthe Dutch central defender hoping that the Egyptian star will stay with the “cormorants”.
Involved in a scandal with manager Arne Slot, Salah returned to action for Liverpool, coming on as a substitute in his side's win over Brighton, where he replaced the injured Joe Gomez.
Van Dijk supports Salah
After being left out of Liverpool's squad for the duel with Inter in the Champions League, Mohamed Salah returned to the Cormorants' bench for the Premier League game against Brighton. With Joe Gomez injured, the Egyptian was brought on in the 26th minute and managed to provide the decisive assist for Hugo Ekitike in his side's 2-0 win.
At the end of the match, Virgil Van Dijk spoke about the Egyptian's future at Liverpool, stressing that everyone hopes he stays at the team, but made it clear that no one can be sure of the final outcome of the situation.
“We all hope that Salah can come back and be important for us for the rest of the season. But on the other hand, we all know how football is and we have no idea what will happen in the end. I hope he stays with us because he is one of our leaders and extremely important to us. I also told him personally that I want him to stay. The rest of our discussion I will not reveal”, were the words of the Dutch defender, according to The Guardian.
Mohamed Salah was involved in a huge scandal at Liverpool. Following the 3-3 draw with Leeds, the Egyptian gave an interview in which he says he is no longer wanted at Liverpool and that his relationship with Arne Slot is over. As well as being left out of the squad that made the trip to Milan, the Egyptian was left on the bench in the league games.
The Egyptian star will go to the Africa Cup of Nations, where he will represent the Egyptian national team. It remains to be seen what decision he will make regarding his future.
