The Military portal analyzed the image and concluded that the Cambodian military captured a Ukrainian-made armored personnel carrier.
“The armored personnel carrier, while reversing, could accidentally slide into the ditch separating the road from the agricultural land. Therefore, the crew probably could not get the vehicle out on their own and was forced to leave it,” the media describes probable events in the war in Asia.
The author of the material noted that the BTR-3E1 was captured without noticeable damage and, probably, in fully operational condition, therefore, it is possible that the equipment could be used against the Thai army.
“Military” explained that the supply of BTR-3E1 armored personnel carriers of various modifications from Ukraine to Thailand began in 2006, 96 vehicles were transferred. Subsequently, contracts were signed for a total of 162 armored personnel carriers.
Context
The conflict between Thailand and Cambodia escalated in July when Thailand launched airstrikes on Cambodian military targets following a mine explosion that resulted in the loss of a Thai soldier's leg. This led to the worst worsening of relations between the countries in recent years.
On July 26, shelling began, but heavy rains temporarily stopped the fighting. On July 28, both sides agreed to an “immediate and unconditional ceasefire” after telephone conversations between the US President and the leaders of both countries.
On October 26, at a summit in Kuala Lumpur in the presence of US President Donald Trump, a peace agreement was signed between the prime ministers of Thailand and Cambodia.
On December 8, the armed conflict between the two countries resumed. In it, in particular, Thailand uses Ukrainian Oplot tanks.
