Băsescu demands the dissolution of the Coalition and attacks Grindeanu: “He thinks his obligation is to serve only the PSD”

Former president Traian Băsescu stated, on Sunday evening, that a minority government “can't work” and claims that the real problem is not Ilie Bolojan, but the PSD leader, Sorin Grindeanu, whom he accuses of putting the party before the national interest.

Traian Băsescu declared that the current government “long live, because that's the alliance”but warned that Romania is “in a time of great difficulty”. In his opinion, Sorin Grindeanu would not understand the seriousness of the economic and political situation.
“The big problem is not Bolojan, but Grindeanu, who does not even understand that the country is in a moment of great difficulty. Grindeanu is not able to see and he is desperate to maintain his position as president, who does not know what he is using”the former head of state told Digi 24.
Băsescu accused the PSD leader of assuming the role of exclusively serving the party and “the clientele PSD”ignoring the public interest. “He thinks that his obligation is to serve PSD only. He has the obligation to serve this country as well”he emphasized.
The former president harshly criticized the existence and role of the governing coalition, which he considers unconstitutional. “One extremely important thing must be done: the abolition of this structure that is not constitutional – the Coalition. I cannot find any article in the Romanian Constitution that speaks of an institution that is the Coalition”said Băsescu.
He drew attention to the fact that this structure replaces the authority of the executive. “They have representation in the government, each party in the alliance has a deputy prime minister, but you cannot substitute the authority of the government with a structure that does not exist”the former president added.
In the same context, Traian Băsescu conveyed that political grievances must be resolved through constitutional instruments. “Mr. Grindeanu is not satisfied with what the government is doing? Very good! Put a censure motion, but don't replace the government”he said.
Băsescu also issued a stern warning regarding Romania's economic situation, arguing that the lack of quick measures to reduce spending can have dramatic consequences. “If solid measures to reduce expenses are not taken this year, in 2-3 years we will start selling the Iron Gates, Constanța Port, Midia Port, Otopeni Airport, to pay our debts and interests”said the former president.
He also criticized the level of interest at which the state borrowed in recent years. “The loans were taken during Ciolacu's time with 6.5-7% interest. You only have one fate: collapse at some point”concluded Traian Băsescu.
