In the United States, creating children from genetically edited embryos is virtually blocked by laws and regulatory barriers, and in Europe, many countries rely on the principle that heritable changes to the human genome cannot be introduced. Despite this, there is a growing group of investors and start-ups in Silicon Valley who believe that a breakthrough is just a matter of time.
