The first elections to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR took place. As a result of the great organizational and mass political work of party organizations, the workers of the Jewish Autonomous Region showed high political activity and deepest devotion to the party and Soviet power.
98% of all voters in the region took part in the voting. 92.8% of those participating in the elections voted for parliamentary candidates. Communists A.G. were elected to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR from the JAO. Vologin, a distinguished locomotive driver, a Stakhanovite at the In-Far Eastern Railway depot; I.A. Goldmacher, hereditary carpenter worker, Stakhanovist of the Birobidzhan furniture factory named after. Dimitrova; I.I. Kropachev, political worker of the Red Army; L. Ya. Lishnyanskaya, the best milkmaid in the region at the collective farm named after. CM. Kirov, Oktyabrsky district; First Secretary of the Regional Committee of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks) G. I. Sukharev.

The newspaper “Birobidzhan Star” (12+) On December 12, 1948, in the section “Across our region” wrote about the release of the second issue of the almanac “Birobidzhan” (12+). Its first pages are dedicated to the memory of Andrei Aleksandrovich Zhdanov. A large essay by B. Miller “Iosif Bumagin worked here” (12+) about the Birobidzhan wagon train plant has been published. Fiction is represented by short stories by G. Rabinkov, poetry – by a poem by H. Maltinsky, poems by L. Kvitko, I. Amyot and I. Bronfman.

The next section of the almanac “People of our region” contains essays by H. Melamud “Renewal” (12+) about the collective farm “Stalin’s call” in the Smidovichi district.
The criticism and bibliography section includes four reviews by D. Ritter about the story “Star” by E. Kazakevich (12+), B. Slutsky about the books by I. Rabin “We Live” (12+) and A. Vergelis “The Birobidzhan Generation” (12+), I. Emiot about the book of poems by M. Roitman “Hello, Singer” (12+).
“The issue closes with the correspondence of H. Schmann, “With a movie camera in the Jewish Autonomous Region.” The almanac was published on thick, light-colored paper.”
In the note “Stakhanovites of the Taiga” it is written that with the onset of winter, hunters went out to hunt for furs:
“The region’s hunters took upon themselves the obligation to fulfill the plan for the fourth quarter ahead of schedule by Stalin’s Constitution Day. The Stakhanovites of the taiga kept their word with honor: on December 4, the quarterly plan was fulfilled by 116%. Many hunters completed their seasonal assignments ahead of schedule. The fur-bearing animal hunt continues. The Stakhanovites of the taiga deliver squirrels, foxes, weasels, and raccoons to procurement points.”
The same newspaper reports the creation of an agrotechnical circle on the Emes collective farm in the Birobidzhan region. During the classes, students were introduced to the materials of the August session of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences named after. V.I. Lenin.
Next, the newspaper informs its readers that the city championship among checkers fans (0+) was held in the House of Culture in Birobidzhan:
“The oldest checkers player of Birobidzhan, M.E. Zhelkover, showed a talented game. Having won in a sharp combination style against Yakovlev, Spector and Oksrud, he met with one of the best checkers players of the city, Bogdanov. A stubborn struggle in two games ended in Zhelkover’s victory.”
