Textbook case: how Diana Sosoacă's party promotes exactly what it condemns

The parties in Romania have ended up constantly ignoring their own principles, often acting in contradiction to the doctrine and programs they declare. Analyst Marius Ghincea observes, for example, that although the party led by Diana Șoșoacă officially supports progressive ideas and rejects any rapprochement with Russia, in practice it promotes the opposite: it supports exactly what it condemns and rejects what it declares to support.

Political scientist Marius Ghincea, from the Swiss University ETH Zurich, noted the inadvertences between the activity of SOS Romania, Diana Șoșoacă's party, and the program and doctrine of the formation. Marius Ghincea observes, not without amusement, the lack of any concordance between certain statements in the SOS doctrine and the facts and statements of Diana Șoșoacă and her colleagues. The SOS Romania party shows true political schizophrenia when it supports certain ideas in theory, but in practice vigorously fights them.
Progressivism in acts, Putinism in deeds
“If political parties were strictly the expression of their political programs, SOS Romania, the party of Diana Șoșoacă, would be among the most progressive parties in Romaniaa”, remarks Marius Ghincea, in a post on Facebook.
Furthermore, he gives some quotes from the SOS Romania program, in support of his idea. All this shows that Diana Sosoacă's party could have been, under other conditions and with other politicians, a progressive party rather than one on the sovereignist orbit and suspected of occult ties with Moscow. And that's because his political program enunciates pro-European and pro-Atlantism ideas, but also sends arrows towards Russia.
What Marius Ghincea does not say is that in many of the ideas derived from the SOS Romania program, the influence of USR on Diana Șoșoacă can be seen. It is about a not too distant past, when today's European parliamentarian sympathized with the USR and the #Resist movement.
“”The post-December mistakes of the governors, the introduction of a barbaric and useless austerity program in the disdain of the political class for the real needs of the citizen, made the institutions and instruments of the market gradually lose their regulatory functions, becoming more and more a decoration behind which hid the disinterest and lack of responsibility of the politician towards the social””. it is one of the ideas that should in principle also be found in the programs of the parties that claim to have their origins in the liberal vein, but also in the more progressive political formations that have clear socialist influences, although they declare themselves to be right-wing, as is the case of USR.
Socialist ideas in the SOS Romania program
Another quote from the SOS doctrine, probably copied from that of other parties, also refers to the social dimension.
“”Our political program realistically and pragmatically conceives the modernization and sustainable development of Romania, starting from the idea that only combining the orientation towards economic efficiency and profit with the social and human dimension of progress offers equal access opportunities, for broad social categories, to the exercise of universal citizenship rights such as the right to education, health or work. We campaign for a peaceful world, for an ecological and humane society, for the reduction of life risks, for an economic and social development that ensures the improvement of the standard of civilization»“, is the second quote that Ghincea refers to.
In documents they spit at Russia
Moreover, in the political program of SOS Romania, it is specified with subject and predicate that Romania must have a pro-Western foreign policy and be part of the Western alliance, part of the European Union. Moreover, Russia and China are also called dictatorships here.
In reality, however, Diana Sosoacă and her party colleagues have a clear pro-Russian policy, and the MEP did not hesitate to go to Moscow, to an official event attended by dictator Vladimir Putin himself. Later, she arrived in Beijing, where she spoke about relaunching the EU-China and Romania-China dialogue and where she met with important members of the Chinese Communist Party, according to a party press release.
“”Romania's place is not on the side of the Russian and Chinese dictatorships, but among democratic states governed by the rule of law. Instead of anti-EU rhetoric, let's align ourselves in the future with those who promote a reform of the European integration system; As an international cooperation initiative aimed at reducing the global ecological crisis, our country should seek and find new roles and international allies””, is the last quote given as an example by Marius Ghincea.
