During his stay in Madrid, the leader of the Palestinian Authority also met with King Felipe VI. This is Abbas' second visit to Spain after the country recognized Palestine as a state in May 2024. The first visit took place in September last year.
Relations between Spain and Israel
Spain is one of the harshest critics of the war in the Gaza Strip, where genocide is taking place. As a gesture of opposition, the government began to terminate arms contracts with Israeli companies and imposed sanctions on some members of Benjamin Netanyahu's government.
State radio and television broadcaster RTVE recently announced that Spain will also not take part in the Eurovision Song Contest next year because Israel's representative has not been excluded.
