The correspondent of “Fakty” TVN in the USA shared new information about Szymon Hołownia's efforts to become the UN High Commissioner for Refugees on Wednesday. According to his information, the leader of Poland 2050 is currently losing in the duel for this seat with Jesper Brodin from Sweden. He is the former president of IKEA.

The Swedish government supported Brodin's candidacy in October. Wrona referred to information obtained from well-informed diplomatic sources at the UN. As he emphasized, the final decision on the selection has not yet been made by Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

The journalist also mentioned a candidate from Germany, whose name, however, he did not reveal. As Hołownia said, “he is not listed among the favorites.” Ultimately, the person designated by Guterres still needs to be approved by the UN General Assembly.

It is still unclear what the future holds for Hołownia. This week, the former Speaker of the Sejm finally decided not to run again in the elections for the leader of Poland 2050. Onet reports that he is “embittered and tired of national politics.”

The 2050 elections in Poland will take place at the beginning of next year. The new leader of the party, which has so far been headed by Hołownia, will be elected by all party members.
