CTP criticizes Nicușor Dan's explanations regarding the drone entering Romania: “It leaves me bouche bée”

The journalist Cristian Tudor Popescu reacted harshly after the statements of the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, in the interview granted to the publication Le Monde, related to the Russian drone that flew over Romania's territory on November 25.

“I criticized President Dan for statements and gestures that I considered wrong or inappropriate. Everything, in rational terms, strictly with the client's material, because I don't know otherwise. But an answer of his lordship, in the interview given to the newspaper Le Monde, left me bouche bée. The reason of the undersigned proves powerless”the journalist wrote on his Facebook page.
He quoted the president's response explaining why the drone was not shot down:
“We are prepared for drones coming from the Odesa area. But it entered further west, after flying over the Republic of Moldova, which was a new situation. We did not have many means of ground defense in that place, and the planes fly much faster than the drones, which makes it very difficult to intercept. We have just received a new system from the Americans, but the radars need to be adapted to detect very low-flying objects.”said Nicușor Dan according to Le Monde.
CTP ridiculed the statements of President Nicușor Dan, stating: “First, the drone was detected immediately, without any special American radar. Then how?! If the drones come from Odessa, we are ready, if they come a few tens of kilometers to the left, it's something new and we have nothing to do with them?! Let's put some visible signs in the sky 'Only for drones from Odessa'?”
The journalist was also outraged by the explanations related to the inability of NATO planes to hit the target.
“The air defense is not on the entire Eastern border of Romania, the border from the war, it's only on the Danube Delta, Tulcea-Galați? 'Didn't we have many means of ground defense in that place'? Well, the NATO F-16 or Eurofighter planes can't get there immediately, as they did, but didn't shoot down the drone? The reporter's question was clear: he's not talking about intercepting the drone, but about shooting it down. Which could not because planes FLY TOO FAST?!!
Therefore, any drone slow enough is invulnerable to fighter jet weaponry?!! Again, our president makes my mind hurt. I only get over it if I think that just as he didn't touch SRI and SIE with a feather, he doesn't want to touch the Army, no matter what happens, not even with a flake…”concluded Cristian Tudor Popescu.
His statements come after the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, gave an interview to the French daily Le Monde, during his two-day visit to France.
We remind you that on November 25, a Russian drone entered Romania's airspace and was tracked for over three hours. Four fighter jets were lifted off the ground and the pilots were given permission to shoot it down. They did not succeed, however, because the aircraft was flying at a very low altitude and frequently disappeared from the radar.
