Răzvan Burleanu, the president of the FRF, announced that the Superleague program in March will undergo a change to help the Romanian national team.
On March 26, Romania will play in Turkey in the semi-final of the World Cup 2026. If they win, the “tricolors” will play on March 31 with the winner of the Slovakia-Kosovo match.

Today, after the meeting of the Executive Committee, Răzvan Burleanu announced that the 2nd stage of the play-off and play-out will undergo a change. Concretely, the teams that will give players to the lot, will play on Thursday (March 19) and Friday (20), not on Saturday and Sunday, so that the footballers come to the lot in the best conditions.
“We analyzed several scenarios together with the technical staff, media partners and colleagues at LPF and had an intervention for the stage preceding the play-off with Turkey. The objective was to optimize the recovery time of the players and maintain the rhythm of the game. We want them to be in the best shape on March 26, for the final with Turkey for the World Cup.
Thus, the teams that give players to the national team will play the matches of the 2nd stage of the play-off and play-out on Thursday and Friday. If club teams will be playing in European competitions on that date of 19 March, then those teams' matches will be postponed to a later date.
We want to do everything possible to provide the technical staff with the best conditions and the best environment to prepare this final for the World Cup. The final with Turkey must be prepared at the highest level,” said Răzvan Burleanu in today's press conference.
The match with Turkey is the final. Why? It is the most difficult match. I would say that it is the most difficult match than any World Cup match could be, in the group in which Romania would play. I am confident for the match against Turkey. Turkey is the toughest opponent. And before the shooting I said that I don't want to fall with Turkey. I believe we will succeed in inspiring the nation, as we have done in other places. The match, 90%, will be played in Istanbul. We are waiting for the completion of all formalities. I think in 48 hours we will know for sure. Mircea Lucescu has the full support of the FRF. No other selector's name was discussed in a discussion in which I was present. Bonus?
