Behind the scenes of the PSD meeting that prepared today's official meeting, in which the attitude towards the Bolojan Government will be discussed. “It would be an uncertain situation, neither on horseback nor on foot”

The PSD National Permanent Bureau has a meeting on Tuesday morning. In preparation, Sorin Grindeanu, the president of the party, and Claudiu Manda, general secretary, met with parliamentarians, after the local elections amid the increase of conversations in the party related to what the social democrats have to do from now on.
“We won in Bolojan at home, in Bihor, and no one talks about it. Everyone only talks about Bucharest,” Claudiu Manda told the PSD senators and deputies gathered in the meeting of the parliamentary group, according to several sources who participated in the discussions.
The success refers to the partial local elections in the town of Remetea, Bihor county, where PSD obtained the position of mayor with 76%. It was a clear battle, in which the winner obtained 1,218 votes, and in second place was the PNL candidate with 383 votes.
“The party is not in dissolution as the rightists said”
The speech of the general secretary of the PSD followed the line launched on Sunday evening by Sorin Grindeanu: the party won the most electoral battles in the partial elections, even if it lost the most important one, the one for the Capital City Hall.
The MEP thanked all his colleagues for their involvement in the electoral campaign and wanted to specify that “the party is not in dissolution as the right-wingers said”.
“They were saying we have 13%, we have shown that it is not true,” Manda told colleagues, according to the sources cited.
He explained that PSD “didn't have Bucharest”, so it cannot be said that PSD lost the Capital, even if Daniel Băluță came third in the partial local elections.
Manda said that in all polls before Sunday's election, Băluță was in first place and that his third place must be analyzed.
The scenarios on the table of the PSD leadership
Sorin Grindeanu made an x-ray of the political situation and the options that are on the party's working table, according to the deputies and senators with whom HotNews spoke. The PSD leader claimed that he would consult more often with his colleagues in the territory regarding the political measures to be taken.
“Grindeanu informed us that we cannot make a government alliance with the AUR, he does not want it. It was among the first things said in the meeting of the parliamentary group. He also did not agree with the idea of a minority government, because it would be an uncertain situation, neither on horseback nor on foot. He stated that we must think about the next steps when we make a decision, not to throw ourselves into the void”, a member of the PSD leadership revealed to HotNews.
“We will not vote on a censure motion submitted by AUR”
The social-democratic deputies and senators also received an important message from Sorin Grindeanu.
“Think carefully what the opposition means. If we are going to vote on a motion of censure, we will vote on a motion of censure submitted by the PSD, we will not vote on a motion of censure submitted by the AUR”, was the key message of the PSD leader in the meeting with fellow MPs, according to HotNews sources.
The announcement was made just before the censure motion of the AUR, which calls for the removal of the USR from the government, was read in the plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate. The vote is to be taken next Monday.
Grindeanu also touched on the subject of anticipations, without insisting on the subject, but was presented on the list of possible scenarios.
“There are minimal chances that the PSD will leave the government this year”
“There are minimal chances that the PSD will leave the government this year, maybe only if something exceptional happens. PSD's first concern is the budget for 2026, there we have to be careful how the money is distributed to the municipalities, not to leave it without investments. We must not forget that 2026 is the last year of the PNRR, the money is coming, no one wants us to leave the government now. We are talking about spring, now it is out of the question,” said another member of the PSD leadership for HotNews.ro.
The PSD meeting lasted about 50 minutes, after which the social democrats went down to the plenary session.
