Although the latest research shows a slight similarity of both formations, the prospect of the first real change of power in over a decade is becoming more and more likely.
Europe “on the road to confrontation”. Viktor Orban paints a grim scenario
In his speech, Orban argued that the continent is on the eve of an escalation of the conflict, which will be heralded by, among others, broken diplomatic relations with Russia, EU sanctions, the return of compulsory military service in some countries and the transition of economies to war mode. – Only then will the confrontation phase come – he said, suggesting that Europe is “moving towards war”, although he did not provide specific evidence or Western military plans.

The Prime Minister assessed that Hungary can avoid being drawn into the conflict only if it remains “strong and sovereign.” — We must learn from history. The upcoming elections will be the last ones before the war. The government we choose will decide our fate – he emphasized.
The head of government argued that the result of the vote will decide on “the fate of Hungarians during the conflict”, and only his cabinet is to guarantee “national security”.
Polarization of the campaign in Hungary. “National government” vs. “Brussels party”
Orban once again he described his cabinet as a “national government” and accused the opposition TISHA of subordinating it to the interests of the European Union. Peter Magyar, a former Fidesz collaborator, has become the prime minister's most serious rival in recent months, mobilizing the electorate tired of Orban's long-term rule and tensions with Brussels.
The Prime Minister also emphasized that is in talks with both the USA and Russiawhich is supposed to prepare Hungary “for the future”. However, he did not reveal what the contacts were about or whether they had any diplomatic dimension beyond standard relations.
The politics of fear at the center of electoral strategy
Orban's speech on Saturday is part of his long-standing narrative in which the government presents itself as the only guarantee of peace and political opponents as those who would “draw Hungary into war.” In the face of TISZA's growing popularity, the Prime Minister is clearly sharpening his rhetoric, trying to turn social concerns into mobilization of the electorate.
Although there are still several months left until the elections, the campaign in Hungary is already marked by sharp polarization – and increasingly alarmist messages coming from the highest levels of government.
