Voter turnout in the Bucharest City Hall elections will be a major factor in this Sunday's election as the latest polls have shown small differences between the main candidates, which means that the mobilization of different voter segments could prove decisive.

In the first five minutes, 1,773 voters voted, of which 1,289 were on permanent and complementary lists and 484 were on additional lists.
The voting booths have opened in the Capital. 1,803,728 voters are registered on the permanent and complementary lists.
“One of the keys” of this election
The director of INSCOP, Remus Ștefureac, said on Friday that “one of the keys to the outcome of the elections for the capital's mayor's office will be the presence of Bucharest residents at the polls, which will significantly influence the final weight of each candidate.”
“In the last 3 weeks, in the INSCOP polls, the estimated turnout extracted from people's statements dropped from 62%, to 52%, to 51%, to 48%. Still high compared to the actual turnout from the local elections of June 9, 2024, when it was 41%. On the other hand, also in Bucharest, in the 2nd round of this year's presidential elections, the turnout was 61%, and in the 1st round of 50%. In the 1st round of November 2024, the turnout in Bucharest was 52%. It's true, different elections, with a different legal regime for the designation of the eligible voter,” said Ștefureac in a post on Facebook.
What was the attendance at the elections in Bucharest after the Revolution
In the local elections on June 9 2024in Bucharest, 747,254 voters came to the polls, i.e. a turnout of 41.31%. Last year's summer poll was won by Nicușor Dan, with a score of 47.65% of the votes, while the following runners-up – Gabriela Firea (PSD), Cristian Popescu Piedone (PUSL), Sebastian Burduja (PNL) and Mihai Enache (AUR) – together obtained 48.3% of the votes of Bucharest residents.
In 2020671,743 people voted in the elections for the general mayor's office, i.e. a turnout of 36.93%. The elections were won by Nicușor Dan with a percentage of 42.81%, compared to 37.97%, the score obtained by Gabriela Firea and 10.99%, the score of Traian Băsescu.
In 2016in the elections won by Gabriela Firea, the turnout was 33.23%, according to resultsvot.ro. At the elections in 2012when Sorin Oprescu won with over 54% of the votes, the turnout was 45.06%. In 2008the last series of local elections in two rounds, the turnout was 31.36% in the first round and 33.71% in the second round won by Oprescu. In 2004when Traian Băsescu won from the first round, the turnout was 43.97%.
In 2000in the first round the turnout was 37.15%, and in the second round, won by Băsescu, 41.47%.
In 1996in the first round the turnout was 51.48%, and in the second round won by Victor Ciorbea, 53.8%.
For the year 1992when Crin Halaicu became mayor of the capital, there are no data for Bucharest, but only for the whole country, where there was a turnout of approximately 65% in the first round and 50% in the second round.
