Former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro, sentenced to 27 years in prison for preparing a coup, intends to support his son's candidacy in next year's presidential elections, CNN Brasil reported on Friday, citing sources close to the former leader.

According to CNN Brasil, the right-wing former president had already informed his eldest son, senator Flavio Bolsonaro, about these plans when he visited him in detention in the capital, Brasilia, where he has been serving his sentence since November.
Financial markets reacted to reports about these plans. The Brazilian currency, the real, lost more than 1.5%. against the dollar, and the Bovespa stock index fell by 1.8%. – Reuters reported.
Bolsonaro was sentenced in September to 27 years and three months in prison for leading a group that plotted to stage a coup. The aim of these actions was to keep Bolsonaro in power after the 2022 presidential elections, in which he lost to the current leftist president, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, by a small margin of votes.
