Alexandru Chipciu, the captain of Cluj University, officially extended his contract with the Transylvanian team. The 36-year-old midfielder has been playing for FC Universitatea Cluj since August 2022, when he came from rival CFR.
Quoted at 350,000 euros by specialist websites, Alexandru Chipciu has so far made 136 appearances for Cluj University, scoring eight goals and providing as many decisive assists.

The president of the club, Radu Constantea, had previously announced that he was going to extend the contracts of footballers Dan Nistor and Alexandru Chipciu. After Nistor's extension was confirmed, the club officially communicated the signing of the new contract by Chipciu.

FC Universitatea Cluj reached an agreement with Alexandru Chipciu (36 years old) for the Romanian international to continue his adventure in black and white, which began in the summer of 2022.
Arriving at our team immediately after returning to the Super League, Chipciu was one of the regular starters of the 2022-2023 season, when he made no less than 39 appearances in the Super League and the Romanian Cup, playing both as a right or left midfielder and as a full-back, a position he established himself in the following seasons. In the first year spent at “U”, resulting in the rescue from relegation and the Romanian Cup final, the Romanian international scored twice and provided two decisive assists.
Having meanwhile become captain of the “students”, Chipciu was even more present in the attack in the 2023-2024 season, in which he scored six goals and contributed with four decisive assists, being, together with his colleagues, one match away from entering the Superliga play-off and only one penalty away from qualifying for the Conference League.
Both objectives were, however, fulfilled in the following season, when our team, with Alex integral in 36 championship matches, managed to reach the top six teams and return to a European cup 53 years after the last qualification. Also, his appreciated developments from the University's exciting start to the season earned Chipciu a return to the Romanian National Team in September 2024, after a five-year absence. Moreover, after the match with Austria in October of this year, the defender of “U” became the first integralist “student” in an official game of Romania after more than five decades.
Until now, Alex Chipciu has collected 136 matches in the University shirt, scored eight goals, contributed eight assists and was one of the craftsmen of the most successful season of the “Red Caps” this century.

In his career, Chipciu has played for Sporting Pitesti, FC Brașov, Forex Brașov, Dacia Unirea Brăila, FCSB, Anderlecht, Sparta Prague and CFR Cluj. For the national team, the midfielder ticked 51 selections.
