FC Universitatea Cluj announced, on Friday, the extension of the contract of the “decar” Dan Nistor (37 years old), one of the basic players of the “Red Caps” in recent seasons. The footballer's contract was due at the end of this season, notes News.ro.
Arriving at “U” in February 2023, Nistor integrated almost instantly and was an important piece in the gearing of the team that not only managed to save itself from relegation, but also to reach the final of the Romanian Cup, losing on penalty kicks to Sepsi OSK. In the second part of the 2022-2023 season, the midfielder brought from Craiova played in 15 games, scored four times and provided a decisive assist.
The second season in the “Red Caps” camp and the first spent entirely in black and white was also the best so far for Dan Nistor, who started 44 matches in all competitions and had remarkable figures, 16 goals and 12 decisive assists, being the main offensive “weapon” of the team in the 2023-2024 season.
Nistor did not slow down even in the following season spent at the University, in which he marked 39 games in the Super League, contributing decisively, with 11 goals and six assists, to the University's qualification for the play-offs and to the return of the symbolic team of Transylvania to the European Cups after 53 years.
The longevity of the midfielder reached new dimensions this season, when Dan Nistor climbed to second place in the list of players with the most matches in the first league. With 496 appearances on the main stage of Romanian football, Nistor has surpassed big names such as Ladislau Boloni, Florea Ispir or Costică Ştefănescu and is, at the moment, only 19 games behind the leader Ionel Danciulescu.
With 17 games collected in this first part of the season, Dan Nistor reached a total of 115 in the “students” shirt, in which he contributed with 34 goals and 24 decisive assists.
