Eurovision plunged into chaos. More countries are boycotting participation because of Israel. “Culture unites, but not at all costs”

“The vast majority of members agreed that there was no need to hold a further vote on participation and that the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 should take place as planned,” the EBU said in a statement.

Following this decision, broadcasters from Spain, Ireland, the Netherlands and Slovenia stated that they disagreed with the EBU and announced that they would not participate in the 70th anniversary of Eurovision in Vienna because Israel was allowed to participate.

Since 1999, Spain has been one of the so-called The Big Four (since 2011 the “Big Five”), who are guaranteed a place in the final of the competition due to paying the largest contributions to the organization of the competition – for this reason, Madrid's decision has a special significance.
