Sorina Grozav, the provisional top scorer of the Women's Handball World Championship

Thanks to the 7 successes of Wednesday night, Sorina Grozav came first in a provisional hierarchy of the best scorers since this final tournament, having so far, after four matches (three in the initial stage and one in the main group), 31 goals scored and a goal efficiency of 62%.

Romania, forced to win the matches with Switzerland and Senegal

The Romanian national team missed every chance at the quarter-finals, but still managed to get a ranking among the top 10 nations. This was the objective announced by the Federation before the start of the competition.

To achieve this goal, Romania is obliged to win the last two remaining matches. Switzerland and Senegal will start with the second chance against Ovidiu Mihăilă's students, but they are not teams to be neglected.

Romania's schedule and results in the main group:

  • December 3 » Hungary – Romania: 34-29

  • December 5, 16:30 » Romania – Senegal

  • December 7, 19:00 » Switzerland – Romania

Even if they will reach 6 points in the main group, the “tricolors” are not 100% top 10 in the tournament. The final ranking of the tournament, between places 9 and 24, will be determined by the place occupied in the main groups.

Romania must definitely grab the 3rd position and have a better ranking line than two of the national teams ranked 3rd in the other 3 main groups. In the current setup, with so many matches left, the calculations are impossible to do.
