The former champion of 23 Grand Slam titles went public and clarified the situation on social media, stressing that her inclusion in the ITIA program has nothing to do with a possible return to the court. Serena's message, short but sharp, only deepened the mystery surrounding the agency's decision.
The message sent by Serena Williams
Retired from tennis for three years, Serena Williams has told fans that she has no plans to return to the professional circuit, despite speculation that has exploded in recent days.
But it remains unclear why her anti-doping case was reactivated, and questions continue to surround one of the greatest players in history.
“God, people, I am NOT going back. These rumors got out of control,” wrote Serena Williams on the X platform.
How often were Serena Williams and Simona Halep tested
Although Serena Williams has dominated the WTA circuit for years, the number of anti-doping tests made by the American is considerably lower than that of Simona Halep.
In the period 2019–2022, Simona Halep was one of the most intensively monitored players in the world, with 53 tests performed both in and out of competition.
2019: 27 tests
2020: 9 tests
2021: 17 tests
In the same period, Serena Williams didn't even break the 40 mark for urine and blood samples, although she was still active for a good part of the interval.
