Calculations are terribly complicated in Group B of the Romanian Cup Betano » FCSB or Craiova, OUT

At this moment, in group B, UTA is the leader, with 4 points. On Thursday, the last match of the second stage is played, Petrolul Ploiești – Universitatea Craiova, a match that will further clarify the situation in group B.

FCSB remains with 3 points after two matches, the same as Gloria Bistrița. Craiova also has three, but one match in the minus, and depending on what it will do on Thursday evening, in Ploiesti, it could take a serious option to qualify for the quarters.

It will be important what will happen in the Gloria Bistrita – UTA match, from the last stage. With a success, the Aradians would score 7 points and be 100% qualified, following as at least one of Craiova or FCSB to be eliminated!

CALCULATIONS for the qualification in the quarters of the Romanian Cup

To analyze the possible scenarios before the last round, we have to start from three possible results in the last match of the second stage: Petrolul – Craiova.

1. If Craiova wins with Petrolul

• Olteni reach 6 points and are almost certain of qualification; Oil remains with one point and has no chance;

• In the last step:

• if Craiova wins, they score 9 points and win the group;

• if they win FCSBCraiova remains with 6, all that FCSB has to do, and it depends on what will happen in the Gloria Bistrița – UTA match. With a success, the people of Arad reach 7 points, and the tie for 2nd place will be between Craiova and FCSB. In the direct match, the Romanian champion has the advantage and Craiova is OUT;

• if Craiova and FCSB end in a tiethe Oltenians reach 7 points, FCSB to 4 and, no matter what happens in Gloria Bistrita – UTA, FCSB cannot overcome UTA, the Aradians having the advantage of the direct result.

2. If Craiova and Petrolul end in a draw

• Olteni reach 4 points, the same as UTA. Oil makes 2 points

• In the last step:

• if Craiova winsscores 7 points and is sure of qualifying for the quarters;

• if they win FCSBCraiova remains with 4, FCSB will make 6, and the Oltenians have little chance of finishing second in the group, given that UTA has a trip at hand with Gloria Bistrița.

• if Craiova and FCSB end in a tieCraiova will score 5 points, FCSB 4, and it is important what will happen in the other matches as well. UTA can successfully overcome both in Bistrita, Petrolul can overcome FCSB if they win with Sănătatea Cluj

3. If Craiova loses with Petrolul

• Craiova would remain with 3 points and would be overtaken in the ranking by Petrolul, which would score 4, tied with UTA;

• In the last step:

• if Craiova winsCraiova would make 6, but might not reach the quarters, if Petrolul and UTA win their matches and reach 7 points;

• if they win FCSBCraiova would remain with 3, FCSB would make 6, and Olteni would be OUT of the competition;

• if Craiova and FCSB end in a tie, Craiova would score 4 points, FCSB also 4, and both could be overtaken by Petrolul and UTA, if they win their matches

In the last stage, the matches are played:

• Craiova University – FCSB

• Gloria Bistrita – UTA Arad

• Cluj Health – Ploiesti Petrol

At the end of the group stage, only the top two teams from each group advance to the quarter-finals of the Romanian Betano Cup. The first criterion is represented by direct matches.
